Amir Omarkhanov vs Rei Sakamoto

Almaty Open · Qualifying Round 1 · 17 October · 07:00

🧠 Form & Context

Amir Omarkhanov

  • 📉 Ranked No. 618 at 18, 4–6 in his last 10 and winning 43% of recent matches.
  • 🔁 A strong returner for his level: 43% of return points won and 45.5% of break points converted.
  • 🏆 Has won 70% of his deciding sets over his career, 71% this season.
  • ⚠️ Second serve is a big weakness – 46.1% won, 43% recently.
  • 📏 A very small sample of matches at this level, so his numbers come with a caveat.

Rei Sakamoto

  • 📈 Ranked No. 137 at 20, 6–4 in his last 10 and winning 63% of recent matches.
  • 🚀 The far stronger serve: 71.1% on first-serve points, 74% recently.
  • 🎾 Solid second serve too – 51.9% won, 54% recently.
  • 🏆 71% of deciding sets won this season.
  • ⚠️ Return is the weaker side: 37% of return points won and 38.2% of break points converted.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A first meeting between a teenager ranked outside the top 600 and one of the brightest young players in the qualifying draw. Sakamoto is one of the heaviest favourites of the day at 1.05.

The serve gap is huge. Sakamoto wins five percentage points more behind his first serve and almost six more behind his second, and that gap has grown in recent matches.

Omarkhanov's hope is the return. He wins 43% of return points against Sakamoto's 37% and converts break points more often, so he can create chances if Sakamoto's first-serve percentage drops.

Both have been very strong in deciding sets this season (71% each), so if the 18-year-old does steal a set, a third would be wide open.

Sakamoto has the serve, the ranking and the form. Omarkhanov's return numbers suggest he can make some games difficult, but an upset would be a major surprise.

Gabriel Diallo vs Harold Mayot

Almaty Open · Qualifying Round 1 · 17 October · 07:00

🧠 Form & Context

Gabriel Diallo

  • 📊 World No. 121 at 25, but only 4–6 in his last 10.
  • 🚀 A big server: 67% of first serves in and 72.5% won behind them.
  • 🎾 Solid behind the second serve too, at 50.9%.
  • 🔒 Saves 61% of break points.
  • ⚠️ Converts only 39.2% of break points, the weaker number on return.

Harold Mayot

  • 📈 Ranked No. 186 at 24, 7–3 in his last 10 and winning 59% of recent matches.
  • ⚔️ Won their only meeting, 7–6 7–6 indoors in Quimper in 2024.
  • 🏆 Has won 65% of deciding sets this season.
  • 🔓 The better return: 41.6% of break points converted.
  • ⚠️ Tiebreaks are a weak spot – only 43% won over his career.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A rematch of a tight indoor meeting in Quimper, where Mayot won two tiebreaks. The market can barely split them, and Mayot is a narrow favourite despite the lower ranking.

Diallo's serve is the main weapon in this match. He lands 67% of first serves – more than five percentage points more than Mayot – and wins more behind both serves.

Mayot is the more reliable all-round player. He converts more of his break chances (41.6% vs 39.2%) and has been in much better form, winning seven of his last 10.

On an indoor court with two strong servers, tiebreaks look likely. That is where their previous meeting was decided, though Mayot's career tiebreak record (43%) is surprisingly poor.

Diallo has the ranking and the bigger serve; Mayot has the form and the head-to-head. A genuine coin-flip on paper, as the prices suggest.

Taro Daniel vs Nikoloz Basilashvili

Almaty Open · Qualifying Round 1 · 17 October · 08:30

🧠 Form & Context

Taro Daniel

  • 📊 Ranked No. 177 at 33, 5–5 in his last 10 but winning 70% of recent matches.
  • 🔥 Serving well lately: 56% on second-serve points and 65% of break points saved.
  • 🔓 Converting 47% of break points recently – one of the best rates in the draw.
  • 🎾 Lands 62.4% of first serves, more than Basilashvili.
  • ⚠️ Has lost all three meetings with Basilashvili, without winning a set.

Nikoloz Basilashvili

  • 📈 Ranked No. 124 at 34, 7–3 in his last 10.
  • ⚔️ Leads the head-to-head 3–0, most recently 6–4 6–1 in Phoenix in 2025.
  • 🚀 Wins 76% behind his first serve in recent matches.
  • 🏆 Stronger in tight sets: 57% of tiebreaks and 57% of deciding sets won over his career.
  • ⚠️ Only 50% of recent matches won, and converting 38% of break points lately.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A meeting of two experienced players in their 30s, and a match-up Basilashvili has dominated: three wins from three, all in straight sets, including two on hard courts.

The recent numbers tell a different story, though. Daniel has won 70% of his recent matches against Basilashvili's 50%, and he is converting and saving break points at a much higher rate.

Basilashvili still has the bigger first serve – 76% won recently – which makes him hard to break when it is working. Daniel is the more consistent server, with more first serves in and a better second ball.

If it goes tight, Basilashvili's career tiebreak (57% vs 52%) and deciding-set (57% vs 49%) records give him the edge.

Basilashvili has the head-to-head and the bigger weapons. Daniel has the better recent form – on current numbers, this looks closer than their history suggests.

Adam Walton vs Beibit Zhukayev

Almaty Open · Qualifying Round 1 · 17 October · 08:30

🧠 Form & Context

Adam Walton

  • 📊 World No. 98 at 27 and the clear favourite, though only 4–6 in his last 10.
  • 📉 Lost his opening match in Jinan this week, against Cilic, after winning the first set.
  • ⚔️ Leads the head-to-head 3–1, with two of those wins in deciding sets.
  • 🎾 The better second serve (52.8%) and the better return (38% of return points won).
  • 🏆 62% career record in best-of-three, 56% of deciding sets won.

Beibit Zhukayev

  • 🇰🇿 The home player: ranked No. 503 at 26, 4–6 in his last 10.
  • 🚀 Huge first serve – 75.6% won over his career, 75% recently.
  • 🔒 Saves 63.5% of break points, 67% in recent matches.
  • ⚠️ Weak on return: 35% of return points won and only 30% of break points converted recently.
  • ⚠️ Only 38% of deciding sets won this season.

🔍 Match Breakdown

The fifth meeting between these two, and the home player in Almaty faces a heavy favourite. Walton has won three of their four meetings, but three of the four have gone to a deciding set.

Zhukayev's first serve is genuinely dangerous: he wins more behind it than Walton (75.6% vs 72.1%) and saves break points at a higher rate. On a quick indoor court, that keeps him in sets.

The problem is everything else. His second serve is weaker, he converts only 30% of his break chances recently, and he wins just 35% of return points over his career.

That makes tiebreaks his best route, and his record there (52%) is level with Walton's. In a deciding set, Walton has the clear edge (56% vs 48% career, 52% vs 38% this season).

Walton has the all-round game and the head-to-head. Zhukayev's serve and the home crowd could make it tight, but the Australian should come through.

  • ✅ Won his opening match in Jinan this week before losing to Bellucci 6–4 6–4.
  • 🚀 Big first serve: 72.7% won over his career, 76% recently.
  • 🔒 Saving 64% of break points in recent matches.
  • ⚠️ Lands only 55.3% of first serves, and wins 48% of recent matches.

Ilia Simakin

  • 📈 Ranked No. 154 at 22, 8–2 in his last 10 and winning 68% of recent matches.
  • ⚔️ Beat Pavlovic 4–6 6–4 6–1 in Shanghai qualifying earlier this month.
  • 🎾 The more complete serve: 61.7% first serves in and 52% on second-serve points.
  • 🏆 Has won 71% of deciding sets this season, with a 67% career record in best-of-three.
  • 🔁 The slightly better returner: 41% of return points won.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A rematch from Shanghai qualifying less than two weeks ago, when Simakin dropped the first set and then took over, winning the decider 6–1.

Both have big first serves (72.7% vs 72.4% won), but Simakin puts far more of them in play – 61.7% against Pavlovic's 55.3% – which means fewer second-serve points for Pavlovic to defend.

Simakin also has the better second serve and the better return, so he should create more chances across the match.

Pavlovic has been saving break points well recently (64%), and his tiebreak record (54%) is level with Simakin's. Tight sets are his best route.

Simakin has the form, the head-to-head and the more rounded game. Pavlovic's serve can keep it close, but the numbers point one way.

Ilya Ivashka

  • ✅ Won his opener in Jinan this week, then lost a three-setter to Liam Draxl.
  • ⚔️ Leads the head-to-head 2–1, including a 6–4 6–2 win at Indian Wells in 2023.
  • 🔥 Serving well recently – 76% on first-serve points and 55% on seconds.
  • 🏆 Won 75% of deciding sets this season.

🔍 Match Breakdown

Two in-form players and a head-to-head Ivashka leads 2–1. Safiullin is a heavy favourite at 1.18, but his opponent has won nine of his last 10.

On paper the career numbers are very close. Safiullin edges almost every serve category, but by fractions – 71.5% vs 71.3% on first-serve points, 51.6% vs 49.9% on second serves.

On return they are identical (40% of return points won each), and recent break-point conversion is level at around 40%. This looks like a match with very few breaks.

Both have been excellent in deciding sets this season (70% vs 75%), and Safiullin has the better tiebreak record over his career (52% vs 49%).

Safiullin has the ranking and the slightly sharper serve. Ivashka has the form and the head-to-head – the price looks short for a match this even on the numbers.

🧠 Form & Context

Petr Bar Biryukov

  • 📊 Ranked No. 278 at 24, left-handed, 5–5 in his last 10.
  • 🚀 Outstanding first serve: 74.5% won over his career, 76% recently.
  • 🔒 Saves 62.8% of break points, 66% in recent matches.
  • 🏆 Strong in tiebreaks – 62% won over his career.
  • ⚠️ Weak on return: only 35% of return points won over his career.

Stefanos Sakellaridis

  • 📊 Ranked No. 135 at 22, but only 2–8 in his last 10.
  • 📉 Lost a three-setter to Keegan Smith in the first round in Jinan this week.
  • 🔁 The better returner: 40% of return points won and 42.2% of break points converted.
  • 🏆 Has won 61% of deciding sets over his career, 60% this season.
  • ⚠️ Saves only 57.3% of break points over his career.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A first meeting between a left-hander with one of the best first serves in qualifying and a higher-ranked opponent who has lost eight of his last 10.

Bar Biryukov's serve is the standout weapon. He wins more than five percentage points more behind his first serve and saves break points at a much higher rate.

Sakellaridis is clearly the better returner (40% vs 35% of return points), and he will need that edge – breaks look hard to come by against the lefty's serve.

In tight sets the numbers split: Bar Biryukov is better in tiebreaks (62% vs 55%), Sakellaridis in deciding sets (61% vs 56%).

Sakellaridis has the ranking and the return; Bar Biryukov has the serve and the better recent run. This looks closer than the 1.30 price.

Alexander Shevchenko vs Daniil Glinka

Almaty Open · Qualifying Round 1 · 17 October · 13:00

🧠 Form & Context

Alexander Shevchenko

  • 📊 World No. 111 at 25; his 2–8 last-10 record includes a poor run before this week.
  • ✅ Reached the quarter-finals in Jinan this week, beating Kecmanovic and Hara Friend before losing to Bellucci.
  • 🔁 The better returner: 41% of return points won and 43.4% of break points converted.
  • ⚔️ Won their only meeting, 6–3 6–7 6–1 indoors in Pau in February.
  • ⚠️ Quick turnaround after Jinan, and converting only 34% of break points recently.

Daniil Glinka

  • 📈 Ranked No. 178 at 26, a left-hander with a one-handed backhand, 6–4 in his last 10.
  • 🚀 The stronger serve: 71.6% on first-serve points and 52.1% on second.
  • 🔒 Saves 62% of break points – more than four percentage points more than Shevchenko.
  • 📊 Winning 54% of recent matches.
  • ⚠️ Below 50% in deciding sets over his career (47%).

🔍 Match Breakdown

A rematch of a three-set battle in Pau in February, which Shevchenko won after losing a second-set tiebreak. He arrives in Almaty straight from a quarter-final run in Jinan.

Glinka has the better serve across the board – more first serves in, more points won behind both serves, and better break-point defence. On an indoor court, that is a real asset.

Shevchenko's edge is on return (41% vs 38% of return points won) and in converting break points over his career, although that has dipped to 34% recently.

The tight-set numbers favour Shevchenko over their careers – 54% of tiebreaks and 52% of deciding sets, against 51% and 47% for Glinka – though this season they are level in deciders.

Shevchenko has the ranking, the return and the head-to-head. Glinka has the serve and the steadier recent record – closer than the price suggests.
