Ben Shelton vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction – Paris Masters 2026 Final Preview & Odds

ATP Masters 1000 · Rolex Paris Masters · Final · Sun 8 Nov · 15:00 CET (17:00 TR)

Shelton vs Alcaraz: a US Open rematch under the Paris lights

Two months after Ben Shelton beat Carlos Alcaraz in five sets at Flushing Meadows, the pair meet again with a Masters 1000 title on the line. This time the bookmakers have no doubts: Alcaraz is 1.27 and Shelton 4.09 at Pinnacle, which makes the Spaniard roughly a 76% favourite once the margin is removed. The two reached this final in very different ways.

Form & Context

Ben Shelton has done it the hard way. Wins over Rinderknech, Paul and Van Assche all went to a deciding set, three in a row, and that is four matches in five days. On Saturday he came from a set down to beat Van Assche 5-7 6-3 6-4. Indoors he has been excellent, winning 9 of his last 10, and his serve is holding close to 90% of the time. He also knows how to come back: in 2026 he has won 11 of the 18 best-of-three matches in which he lost the opening set.

Carlos Alcaraz has barely been troubled. He beat Michelsen and Ruud in straight sets, with only Taylor Fritz taking him the distance. Ruud went down 6-4 6-4 in the semi-final. He is unbeaten indoors in 2026 (8-0) and 44-6 over the past 52 weeks. One number stands out: this season, in 24 best-of-three matches where he won the first set, he has never lost.

The storylines

Can Shelton's serve and his knack for late comebacks overcome four tough matches in five days? Or does a fresh Alcaraz, unbeaten indoors all year, take his revenge for New York? The numbers above point in very different directions depending on who wins the first set. That makes the opening set the moment to watch.

Jan Kumstat

  • 🔥 Ranked No. 194 at 19, 6–4 in his last 10 and winning 74% of recent matches. Beat Shimizu in the semifinals.
  • 🚀 Strong behind both serves: 72.7% on the first (76% recently) and 50.9% on the second (57% recently).
  • 🔒 Saves 59.8% of break points, and 70% in recent matches.
  • 🏆 Has won 68% of career tiebreaks, 66% of deciding sets and 92% of matches after taking the first set.
  • ⚠️ Converts only 39.1% of break points, and his career sample is still small.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A first meeting, in the final. Watanuki is the 1.53 favourite despite being ranked 181 places lower than the 19-year-old.

On serve there is very little between them. Watanuki wins slightly more behind the first serve (73.6% vs 72.7%), while Kumstat is slightly stronger behind the second (50.9% vs 50.1%). They land first serves (55.5% vs 56.2%) and save break points (60.0% vs 59.8%) at almost the same rate.

Watanuki is the slightly better returner: 32.5% against the first serve to 31.5%, and 51.0% against the second to 50.1%. He also converts more break points (42.5% vs 39.1%, and 49% vs 38% in recent matches).

Watanuki is 7–3 in his last 10 against 6–4, but Kumstat has won far more of his recent matches (74% vs 55%). Kumstat also has the far stronger record in tight finishes: 68% of tiebreaks against 52%, and 67% of deciding sets this season against 40%.

Expect plenty of holds and probably tiebreaks. Watanuki's return gives him the edge on break points, while Kumstat's record in tight sets is the biggest threat to the price.

Claire Liu vs Alexandra Eala Prediction – Hong Kong Open 2026 Final Preview, Odds & Pick

WTA 250 · Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open · Final · Sun 8 Nov · 09:00 CET (11:00 TR)

Claire Liu vs Alexandra Eala: the market says class, the week says form

The Hong Kong final pits two players who arrive with near-identical form numbers but very different price tags. Alexandra Eala is a heavy favourite at 1.43, Claire Liu the outsider at 3.01 (Pinnacle). Strip out the margin and the market makes Eala roughly a 68% shot. Is that gap deserved? Mostly yes, but the reasons are more interesting than the price suggests.

Form & Context

Claire Liu has had the cleaner week by some distance. Wins over Boulter, Sonmez and Shubladze all came in straight sets, and she is 8-0 in sets with no tiebreak needed. Her semi-final against Shubladze finished 7-5 6-4. She is 7-3 over her last ten and 44-22 over the past 52 weeks. One caveat: much of that record was built below tour level. At WTA level on hard courts she is only 5-4 in that span.

Alexandra Eala has had to work harder. After straight-set wins over Valentova and Ruzic she needed three sets to get past Maria Sakkari, 7-5 3-6 6-4, in a semi-final that ran into rain delays. Her raw form is the same 7-3 over ten matches, but her 52-week record carries more weight: 47-25 overall and 29-14 at WTA level on hard courts. That includes a 7-3 record against Top-10 opposition.

Their combined form scores are almost level, 69.2 for Liu and 68.8 for Eala. Eala's favouritism rests on the quality of her opposition, not on hotter form.

Head-to-headLiu 1-0 (Guangzhou 2025 R1, 2-6 6-4 6-4)

Match Breakdown

The case for Liu. She owns the only previous meeting, a come-from-behind three-setter in Guangzhou last October. She also arrives fresher after a week without a single tiebreak. Her season numbers point the same way: Liu rarely lets a set lead slip (10.8% collapse rate) and recovers from a set down more often than Eala does. An east-north-easterly breeze forecast at force 5–6 should also flatten serves a little and favour the steadier returner.

The case for Eala. Class at this level. Her tour-level hard-court record dwarfs Liu's, she has beaten Top-10 players regularly this year, and her 7-3 tiebreak record in 2026 matters in a final that could tighten late. The Sakkari win also shows she can hold up in a long, scrappy match, which is exactly what a final can turn into.

Three sets or two? The market prices a deciding set at about 41%. Our model has it a little higher, but both players' 2026 hard-court histories argue for straight sets: only 8 of Liu's 30 hard-court matches went the distance, against 16 of Eala's 42. That matters because it undercuts the obvious underdog angle of Liu +1.5 sets.

Where's the value?

Honestly, there isn't any clean value. Our model makes it 67/33 Eala, almost exactly the market's 68/32. The one line that looks interesting at first, Liu +1.5 sets @ 1.70, fails once you account for how rarely these two go to a decider. The correct-score market tempts with Eala 2-1 @ 3.87, but that edge also disappears under the same check.

Verdict: Eala is the right favourite and the price is fair. This is a final to watch rather than one to force a bet on. If you want a position, Polymarket's in-play market lets you react to the first set, which is the stage where Liu's comeback numbers become relevant.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A first meeting, in the final. Kym is the 1.52 favourite despite being ranked 22 places lower.

Two big servers. Kym wins far more behind the first serve (74.7% vs 70.7%) and lands more first serves (63.0% vs 60.6%). They are level behind the second serve (50.3% vs 49.8%) and on break points saved (61.8% vs 62.3%).
