Mattia Bellucci vs Martin Landaluce

Jinan Challenger · Final · Hard · 18 October · 09:00

🧠 Form & Context

Mattia Bellucci

  • 📈 World No. 86 at 25, left-handed, 8–2 in his last 10.
  • ✅ Yet to drop a set all week: Ymer, Pavlovic, Shevchenko and Mochizuki – just 27 games lost in four matches.
  • 🚀 The stronger serve: 72.5% on first-serve points, 51.6% on second, 65% of break points saved recently.
  • 🏆 Wins 56% of tiebreaks and 56% of deciding sets, with a 62% career record in best-of-three.
  • ⚠️ Has lost four of his five meetings with Landaluce, but won the most recent one, in Winston-Salem in August.

Martin Landaluce

  • 📊 World No. 73 at 20 – the highest-ranked player in the final – but 4–6 in his last 10.
  • ✅ Beat Simakin, Cui and Smith, then Draxl 7–6(0) 6–3 in the semi-finals.
  • ⚔️ Leads the head-to-head 4–1, with wins on hard, clay and grass.
  • 🎾 Lands 62.5% of first serves and saves 61.8% of break points.
  • ⚠️ Tiebreaks remain a weakness (44% career), and only 43% of deciding sets won this season.

🔍 Match Breakdown

The sixth meeting between these two in two years, and a final between the two best players of the week. Landaluce has dominated their head-to-head, but Bellucci won their latest meeting in August.

Bellucci has been the most impressive player in Jinan, without a dropped set. His serve numbers are the stronger of the two, especially on the second ball (51.6% vs 49.2%).

Landaluce lands more first serves and is fractionally better on return (39% vs 38% of return points), but there is very little between them – this looks like a match of holds.

That makes the tight moments crucial. Bellucci has the clear edge in tiebreaks (56% vs 44%) and in deciding sets this season (50% vs 43%).

Bellucci has the form and the serve; Landaluce has the ranking and the head-to-head. The market makes Bellucci the favourite, but this looks closer than that.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A fourth meeting between two players who know each other well on clay. Piros won the first two; Passaro won the last one in Naples. The market can't split them – both are priced at 1.84.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A rematch of last year's meeting in Roanne, which Martineau won in a final-set tiebreak. He also won their second meeting, in March, so he has the upper hand – but the market makes this a coin flip at 1.84 each.

This is serve versus return. Martineau wins five percentage points more behind his first serve and is far stronger on break-point defence.

Brunold is an outstanding returner – 46% of return points against Martineau's 38% – and he has been winning 63% of his recent matches.

If it goes tight, Brunold's numbers stand out: 65% of tiebreaks against 53%, 62% of deciding sets against 46%. He has already won two tiebreaks against a big server in Kym.

Martineau has the serve and the head-to-head. Brunold has the return and the clutch numbers – a genuine coin flip indoors.

🔍 Match Breakdown

A final between the top two seeds, and a third meeting in a year. Dzumhur won the first indoors in Athens; Fearnley won the second at Indian Wells in March.

Fearnley's first serve is the biggest weapon on court – more than seven percentage points better than Dzumhur's – and it has carried him through the week without a dropped set.

Dzumhur puts more first serves in play and is better on the second ball, and he is fractionally the better returner. He has also looked sharper as the week has gone on.

Their tiebreak records are identical (51%), but Fearnley has the much stronger record in deciding sets (69% vs 54%) and rarely loses after winning the first set.

Fearnley has the serve, the form and the closing record. Dzumhur has the experience and the steadier all-round game – closer than the price suggests, though Fearnley is the deserved favourite. He is also due to play in Brussels on Monday.
