WTA Rome – Navarro vs. Tauson

WTA Rome – Navarro vs. Tauson

🧠 Form & Context

Clara Tauson
Clara Tauson finally found some traction on clay after a rocky start to the season. Although her first-round win over Katie Volynets came via retirement, it was still enough to surpass her previous Rome performances.

Despite the inconsistency of late, 2025 has been a strong campaign overall—highlighted by a title in Auckland and a runner-up finish in Dubai, putting her on the verge of a Top-20 debut.

However, clay remains a less natural surface for Tauson, who thrives more on quicker courts. A victory over a top-10 opponent like Navarro would be a huge milestone in her clay-court development and a potential springboard for more confidence heading toward Paris.

Emma Navarro
Emma Navarro has emerged as one of the steadiest players on tour, breaking into the top 10 behind her consistent Grand Slam and WTA 1000 runs. However, she has cooled off a bit during the European clay swing.

Her first-round win over Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets at Rome was a much-needed boost. It also marked her first career win at the Italian Open, a confidence-builder heading into deeper rounds.

Unlike many of her American peers, Navarro is very comfortable on clay—thanks to her physicality, heavy topspin, and grinding baseline style. Still, she’s looking for a spark to reignite the momentum she carried earlier this season into the clay major season.
