ATP Rome – Djere vs. Alcaraz
🧠 Form & Context
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Rome campaign, delivering arguably his sharpest first-round performance of 2025 with a dominant win over Dusan Lajovic.
Most importantly, Alcaraz showed no lingering signs of the injury he suffered during the Barcelona final. His movement looked crisp, his footwork explosive, and he reported feeling fully confident in his body post-match.
Interestingly, Rome has been a rare stumbling block for the young star—it's the only major Masters 1000 where he has yet to make the quarterfinals. After lifting the Monte Carlo title and with Roland-Garros fast approaching, Alcaraz is clearly motivated to conquer this final Masters frontier.
Laslo Djere
Laslo Djere has quietly put together a strong clay-court season, compiling a 17–4 record and shaking off injury worries that plagued him throughout 2024.
He’s navigated the early rounds in Rome with authority, dispatching Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Alex Michelsen without much drama. However, Djere’s struggles against top-10 opposition remain a concern—he hasn’t recorded a top-10 win since Auckland 2023.
The two players recently met in Barcelona, where Djere initially made life uncomfortable for Alcaraz before fading physically and mentally. He’ll need to be even sharper here if he wants to challenge the newly revitalized world No. 2.
